OBITUARY:
MRS. DAVID LOGAN IS CALLED BY DEATH.
WAS AN EARLY PIONEER AND A DAUGHTER OF THE LATE DANIEL WALDO.
Early yesterday morning Mrs. David Logan passed away peacefully in this city at the age of 71 years. Her health had not been rugged for some time by the end came unexpectedly and was preceded by but a few hours real illness.
She belonged to the old fashioned home-loving type and while never having been blessed with children of her own had opened her home to her nephews and nieces.
In the death of Mrs. Mary Porter Logan, daughter of the late Daniel Waldo, the state loses another one of the heroic pioneers of 1843. Although but 3 years old when she came across the plains, she clearly remembered some incidents of the adventurous journey. Except for a few years spent at Willamette university in Salem, Mary Waldo passed her girlhood on the old homestead in Waldo hills.
She was married to David Logan, son of the late Judge Stephen Logan of Springfield, Ill., on February 6, 1862. Mr. Logan ranks as the most brilliant criminal lawyer in Oregon’s early history, one of the incidents which brought him into prominence being the eloquent and able defense of Beale and Baker, on trial for the murder of Daniel Delaney. He died at his country place near McMinnville early in 1875, leaving no children.
Of late years Mrs. Logan has made her home in Seattle, where she has considerable property. For the past two years she has been the guest of her brother Judge William Waldo in Salem.
With the death of Mrs. Logan, William Waldo remains the only surviving child of the pioneer settlers of the Waldo Hills. The funeral will be held at 2:30 today (Thursday) from the home of her nephew, G. C. Brown, 605 North Summer street, corner of Union. It will be conducted by the Christian Scientists, of which organization she was a member.

The funeral of Mrs. David Logan took place yesterday from the home of her nephew George G. Brown, clerk of the state land board. The services were under the auspices of the Christian Science church, of which she was a member. There were many beautiful floral offerings and a large number of friends attended the funeral. Interment was made in the I. O. O. F. cemetery.
